[2] In sancte opressionibus ecclesie ad iuris recurrendum est ecclesiastici protectorem.1

[3] Vos quidem ex divina expositione culmen tenetis, unde potestis rerum exactores ecclesiasticarum cohercere et ad restitutionem dampnorum revocare. Gratia sit Altissimo, quod potestati iuncta est voluntas. Numquam enim consensistis iura ecclesiastica dissipari.

[4] Paternitati ergo vestre supplicamus, ut comitem .H.,2 qui nova exactione nostros spoliat homines, commoneatis, quatenus|[96v] supersedeat, et quod usurpavit, restituat ecclesie beati .M.3 Dignitati namque derogat apostolici, qui iura minuit confessoris. Alioquin in terram eius generale mittas interdictum, ut careat divinis exceptis confessione infirmantium et baptismum parvulorum.


1 Letter asking help from a high church prelate (perhaps the archbishop of Tours: see letter no. 25 below), that he warn count H., who has despoiled the serfs of the church of Saint Martin with new taxes, that he must restore that which he has usurped. Otherwise the recipient should lay on count H.'s lands a general interdict.
