[1] DE CAPTIVIS REDIMENDIS.1 

[1b] Universis sancte Dei ecclesie fidelibus metropolitanis suffraganeis .M.2 Dei gratia Ilerdensium humilis minister salutem in Christo et viscera misericordie habere.3

[2] Cum omnes per primi lapsum hominis exilium paciamur, captivos et exiles iuvare debemus. Nemo enim carnem suam odio habere debuit, cum nos caro simus una, per caritatem membra diaboli.

[4] Latorem ergo presentium in annum ad expugnandos nostre fidei hostes strenuum sub iniqua belli abea, a Sarracenis captivatum vestre mittimus fraternitati rogantes, ut ad redemptionem suam ipsi misericorditer opitulari dignemini, quatenus valeat a perversorum|[108r] canum faucibus liberari. Nos vero omnibus, qui manum misericordie porrexerint, qua quartam partem Bihancii erogaverint, tertiam penitentie partem, qui integram donavint, illis partem mediam relaxamus.

1 Encyclical letter sent by M., bishop of Lerida, seeking funds for the dedemption of captives from the Saracens. Following the usual form for such encylicals, this letter lacks a narration.

2 Not identified. A bishop M. of Lerida also appears in letter no. 60. According to GAMS Series episcoporum, there were no bishops of Lerida with this first initial until 1542. Contemporary bishops of Lerida: Gaufridus (1125-1143) and Guillen Perez (1143-1176).
